A Dinner

Cate is one of my best friends. She is the most efficient lady you can imagine. She is full of friendliness, tenderness and candor. I love her a lot.

One day, she invited twenty people for dinner. She had reservation at a restaurant. That night she went to the restaurant early to make sure everything was fine. When she got to the restaurant nothing was ready.  She got a little upset but she didn't want her face to show it.  She said to one of the waiters, ˇ°Hi, Sir, I had reservations for twenty people for six o'clock.ˇ± But the waiter looked Cate's face vacantly.  Cate said again, ˇ° Sir, I had reservation for twenty people for six o'clock.ˇ±  This time the waiter understood, but he said politely, ˇ°Miss, I don't know anything about that.  Let me get my manager.ˇ±  A few minutes later, a man walked toward Cate. His hair was almost all gray, brushed down smoothly, and he had a habit of running his hand over it gently to keep it smooth. His eyelids were heavy and the lower lids especially made one think that they were full of tears of sadness.  When he smiled, the last muscles to move were those that controlled the area about his eyes and the smile was over before it was quite complete. He asked, ˇ° Miss, When did you make these reservations? Cate said, ˇ°One week agoˇ± The manager said, ˇ°I didn't know about that.ˇ± Cate could no longer maintain her manners. She raised her voice, ˇ°I said I had reservations here for twenty people for dinner and now there are only twenty minutes left and I am mad.ˇ± The manager shook his head with bullock neck and said to Cate, ˇ°Don't be angry, I will set the table for you now.ˇ±  Then he turned his neck and said to the waiters, ˇ°Set number 5 table for her.ˇ±

Cate went to the table and set up straight, holding her chin up, gazing at the waiters who were busy setting up the bowls and plates.  She said to herself, ˇ° I am glad I came here early otherwiseˇ suddenly she jumped up and ran outside.  She looked at the name of the restaurant.  Then she ran into the restaurant again and said to the waiters, ˇ° Sorry, Sorry, stop setting the table!  I am at the wrong place!ˇ±

When Cate rushed into the restaurant, all the people were sitting around the table.  They said to Cate, ˇ°Hi, where have you been?ˇ± She pretended nothing happened.
